Review For Official Book for The Great British Bake-off

Regular readers have asked us for more information on BBC2′s The Great British Bake-off competition with Sue Perkins, Mel Giedroyc and judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. As well as the KitchenAid Artisan mixers used by the home bakers throughout the series (with different signature colours for each contestant) as discussed elsewhere on this site, and a whole menu of highly desirable luxury kitchen and cooking items, there are the recipes themselves!

The BBC’s Official Book of The Great British Bake-Off

This is the official book for The Great British Bake-off tv show and contains over 120 recipes including many prepared by the contestants during challenges on the series itself plus others not seen before (i.e. not available on the BBC website).

As you will know by now, many of these recipes were prepared on the show using KitchenAid Artisan mixers, and while the BBC’s charter does not allow advertising, it’s quite clear they like this mixer very much – and so do we. If you’re looking to buy a mixer, this BBC book is the perfect way to get straight into how to it.

The recipes include savoury dishes as well as sweet and is suitable for all levels of baker (the instructions are clear and quite detailed) – the recipes have been thoroughly tested, so there will be few surprises. As you would expect there is a heavy emphasis on cakes and bread.  Particular favourites in our kitchen are the Cornish Pasties and the Cornish Clotted Cream Cake. The book is a hefty hardback, with 352 pages. An ideal present for the Foodie in your life (we couldn’t wait for someone to buy us one, so we bought one ourselves).
