Review of My Black KitchenAid Artisan Mixer

Review of My Black KitchenAid Artisan Mixer

The KitchenAid Artisan Mixer was the star of the show in the BBC's Great British Bake-Off

I did a lot of research before I finally bought my black KitchenAid Artisan Mixer. The reviews I read and the great reputation of KitchenAid, got me to the point of almost committing, but when I saw it on the Beeb’s Great British Bake-Off I treated myself. It’s a lot of money to shell out for a kitchen tool, but worth every penny. No more scraping the bowl with a spoon, no more dry flour isolated in islands at the bottom of the bowl, and it’s iconic enough that I can keep it sitting in plain view.

The Pouring Shield On My Black KitchenAid

The pouring shield means I can dump ingredients in easily without having the blow back in my face. I sometimes whip up batches of decorator’s cake icing, which needs a couple of pounds of confectioner’s sugar. On my old mixer, everything within 3 feet of the mixer would be covered in with a layer of sugar. Not any more. The pouring shield keeps the mess where it belongs – in the bowl and on the underside of the mixer head. I was keen on a mixer with tilt-up head instead of the bowl-lift mechanism that you get on other KitchenAid models. It’s neatly designed so that tilting the head back won’t knock the pouring shield off with the beater.

I like to make bread by hand, and have always bemoaned the 10 minutes of hand kneading. But now I dump the dough in my KitchenAid and run it at the lowest speed with the dough hook. It comes out just right. I’m no longer a believer that “by-hand” is best.

I bought the black KitchenAid, but it can look a little streaky if you just wet wipe it clean. Be sure to dry it off. My better half put the beater attachment into the dishwasher and it came out covered in baked powdery-looking lumps. That took a bit of cleaning.

I’d Recommend My Black KitchenAid To Anybody

Overall, I would highly recommend the Artisan mixer. It will certainly outlive me, and while I share a kitchen with it, I can show it off to friends over a glass of white with freshly baked bread and Valvona & Crolla’s olive oil. If you feel it’s time you got yourself a real mixer too, you can buy your own black KitchenAid Artisan Mixer from Amazon below:
